22/01/2009SCHOOLS NorthEast surgery: Working with the media
Want practical help from the experts on how to deal with journalists, get positive publicity for your school and manage any issues that could jeopardise your reputation? SCHOOLS NorthEast launches the first of a series of support surgeries on working with media.
This introductory session will help you to understand how to approach the media and the techniques you need to ensure that you get your message across. The session is free and open to all, but places are very limited so get in quick! Further sessions will be offered subject to demand.

One of two free surgeries run by SCHOOLS NorthEast offering funding advice for your school. National and regional funding organisations will be onhand with information on how to access trusts, grants and foundations, and get funding. You will also recieve tips on how to complete funding application forms and write bidding letters.

30/01/2009Raising and Realising Aspirations Conference
Government Office for the North East invites you to a conference which looks at raising and realising aspirations for children and young people in the North East. The conference aims to:
- promote understanding of the impact of both low and unfulfilled aspirations on outcomes for young people in the North East
- Identify specific activity which could be promoted to support raising and realising aspirations.
The day will be chaired by Keith Moore, Deputy Director of Children’s Services, Sunderland City Council and will include a speech by Estelle Morris, presentations by academics and young people, a ‘think tank’ session on action planning led by ippr (North). Government Office North East is also looking to gather examples from across the region of specific activity which has an impact on raising young people's aspirations. click here to submit a case study

Send along your most promising young and aspiring entrepreneurs for a day of inspiration, opportunity and knowledge-sharing. As many as 1500 young people are expected to gather together and enjoy a full programme of events including, informative and entertaining
speakers, topic stations, a trading area, enterprise showcase, media area and live challenge. The event will provide a wonderful opportunity to showcase some of the great work being done to nurture enterprise and entrepreneurship in the North East. 11/03/2009EU and all that Citizen Conferences
The EU and all that Citizenship conferences aim to provide teachers with practical ideas for delivering engaging Citizenship lessons on the European Parliament. Each conference (from the EU and The Hansard Society) is made up of a series of workshops that introduce teachers to a range of (free) resources including The Democracy Cookbook and The EU: What’s That? and demonstrate how they can be used in the classroom in an innovative manner.
