Are you in need of a Maths or Physics teacher for September?

Following a successful pilot last year in the South-East region, a new DfE-funded programme is now being rolled out to the Northern region to support schools to fill teacher vacancies by bringing across experienced Maths and Physics teachers from the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand to work in the UK.

Join us for an informative webinar in which the Great North Maths Hub will provide a more detailed overview of the programme and be available to answer any questions attendees may have.

Whilst schools will of course be required to pay the teacher’s salary, recruitment costs are being covered by the DfE and schools will also be given logistical support by the DfE’s appointed international recruitment provider, Prospero Teaching. International applicants, who must already be qualified teachers, go through a rigorous screening and interview process before they are accepted onto the programme. Based on this, successful applicants are then matched to the most appropriate of the schools who have registered for the programme.

The international teachers will receive pre-arrival support, attend an acclimatisation residential on arrival, and receive an on-going package of quality-assured professional support led by the Great North Maths Hub. As part of the package offered to these teachers to entice them to come to the North, they will also be participating throughout the year in Evidence Based Education’s world-class ‘Assessment Lead Programme’, designed to help teachers to use assessment more effectively to support curriculum planning and pedagogy. This brings additional benefits to the school, with the expectation being that the international teacher will cascade this training to their departmental colleagues and beyond.

The programme, marketed internationally as ’Teach STEM International’, is being led by the Great North Maths Hub, working alongside Prospero Teaching.

The DfE are keen to ensure this service is accessible to schools immediately to allow it to be considered during workforce planning, and international applicants are already becoming available, so should you have any urgent questions, or wish to register your school’s interest in the programme, please contact Paul Johnson at paul.johnson@ntlp.org.uk
