North East Youth Summit

31st Oct 2016

Organiser
Labour Members of the European Parliament

A message for your students:

Are you in Sixth Form? Or at College or Uni? Or have an interest in the big issues of the day? Then this event is for you.

The United Kingdom has voted to leave the European Union. This decision brings lots of challenges and uncertainty but also potential new opportunities for us here in the region. We believe it is important that the North East has a voice in these times of great change.

We are now carrying out a consultation to try and identify the region’s priorities. We will present our findings to negotiators in the UK and EU, like Prime Minister Theresa May and EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. We want to make sure the North-East has a strong voice in exit negotiations. As the people most affected in the long term, we want to know what YOU think.

We will be covering some of the following issues (and more!):

•    Staying in the Single Market,
•    European funding,
•    Protecting workers’ rights,
•    The right to live, travel, study and work in other EU countries,
•    Protecting our beaches, rivers and air through environmental standards,
•    Price of goods in shops,
•    Farming, fishing and food,
•    The right of EU Citizens to live in the North East,
•    Potential break up of the United Kingdom if Scotland and Northern Ireland wish to stay in the EU.

So we can hear from you on the priorities of the North East we would like to invite you to discuss them with us at our Young People’s Summit, taking place at Hartlepool College of FE, on Monday 31st October at 2-4pm.

You can sign up to the event here: https://northeastyouthsummit.eventbrite.co.uk

Whether you supported leave or remain, or whatever your views on politics, our consultation is non party political so we very much want to hear what you think the North East needs.
