Schools Advisory Service are once again putting something back into education, by giving your school a FREE opportunity to learn more about the real issues of becoming an Academy Trust

This event includes inputs from a high quality team of speakers who have developed very successful school Academy Trusts and are willing to share their experiences to ensure you are fully prepared if your school decides to become an Academy Trust.

This is an excellent opportunity for Heads and SBMs to attend this FREE event, on a development that will be facing all schools in the coming years.

By November, Ad Astra Academy Trust will have four primary schools across Teesside with another aiming to join in February.

GUEST SPEAKERS

Emma Hendry
I am ACIPD qualified with 10 years’ experience in professional HR practice, and 15 years working in people management overall. I specialise in Education HR and I worked for Education Leeds (now part of Leeds City Council Children’s Services) for 3 years as Senior HR Adviser focusing on the North West of the city.
I was seconded by Education Leeds to provide school based HR support directly to Swallow Hill Community College and Crawshaw High School, working on specific HR projects such as Staff Restructure and Absence Management. I was offered the opportunity to become directly employed by Swallow Hill in April 2011 as HR Manager and when the school became and academy and part of the AET in July 2013 I was promoted to Director of HR. I remained with Swallow Hill until April 2016 where I was a fully operational member of the Senior Leadership Team for 3 years.
Within my current role as Assistant Director of HR for SAS Ltd I am responsible for the associated leadership of the HR Consultancy function, which provides HR services to schools, academies and trusts across the UK.

Andy Brown OBE
Andy is CEO of Ad Astra Academy Trust based in the Tees Valley. He was awarded an OBE for services to education in the
Queen’s Birthday Honours 2016. He was up until recently headteacher of West View Primary School, the Regional 2015 Pupil Premium winner, for almost 21 years. He is Chair of the DfE Primary Headteacher’s Reference Group and has been a National Leader of Education since 2007. Andy was national runner-up in Head-teacher of the Year 2015 and currently sits on the EDT national head-teacher’s board and the regional board of Teaching Leaders and Teach First. He is also Co-Director of Transforming Tees. Up until August 2016 he supported the delivery work of the DfE in the North East as a National College for Teaching and Leadership TLA.

Janice Jones – Chief Finance Officer,
The Keys Federation Academy Trust; Specialist Leader of Education
Janice leads the Keys Federation’s central business development department, which includes finance, HR, administration,
estates management and health and safety. She also advises the Chief Executive on the strategic/corporate development of the Federation and staff development and training requirements. Janice is also a Specialist Leader of Education, specialising in business and financial management and academy conversion.
