One Day Workshop – Understanding Children’s Communication using Video Interaction Guidance

Northumbria academic Dr Deborah James is hosting a one day workshop - Understanding Children’s Communication using Video Interaction Guidance  with specialist speech and language therapist Melanie Cross. The workshop will use video examples from the NICE recommended intervention, Video Interaction Guidance.

The focus of the session is on children in the early years. It will demonstrate how video feedback has been used to bridge the education setting and family homes and to increase parental confidence in supporting children with SEN. Deborah and Melanie are both speech and language therapists and video interaction guidance practitioners and supervisors, and they will use examples from their practice and research with video feedback to show the underpinning social foundation for speech, language and communication.

Who is it for?

This course will be helpful to practitioners in schools, early years’ settings and social care settings, particularly those with an interest in social communication, speech and language development. It will also be helpful for practitioners who want to understand more about early development of speech, language and communication. Anyone thinking about undertaking training in Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) may also find this day a good introduction to the principles and practices of VIG. Places are limited so early booking is advisable.
